Fed: Downer promises to tell the truth at Cole inquiry

Foreign Minister ALEXANDER DOWNER has promised to tell the truth when he faces a corruption
inquiry into Australia's biggest trade scandal.

But he's refused to give any insight into his testimony before the Cole commission
.. which is probing 300 million dollars in kickbacks paid by wheat exporter AWB to the
former Iraqi government.

Deputy Prime Minister MARK VAILE will take the stand tomorrow .. and Mr DOWNER will
follow him on Tuesday.

Mr DOWNER's told the Nine Network .. the government wants to get to the heart of what's occurred.
