Fed:Australia shielded by prudent policies: IMF

The International Monetary Fund says Australia is being protected from a weakening
global economy by prudent policies and a flexible currency.

The IMF says the growth momentum in Australia remains robust .. and the turbulence
in global financial markets has so far had only a limited impact on our economy.

It's predicting gross domestic product to ease modestly to 3.2 per cent in 2008 and
3.1 per cent in 2009 .. compared with 3.9 per cent in 2007.

Treasurer WAYNE SWAN says Australia is well-placed .. but the government is not complacent.
