Selectica Poised to Deliver Itanium(TM)-Based Solutions.

Intel(R) Itanium(TM) Processor Will Accommodate Selectica Internet Selling

Applications

SAN JOSE, Calif., May 29 /PRNewswire/ --

The Internet selling system (ISS) produced by Selectica(TM) (Nasdaq: SLTC) will integrate seamlessly with the new Intel(R) Itanium(TM) processor, a breakthrough processing architecture designed for a wide range of high-performance computer applications.

Developed from the ground up to accommodate the most demanding enterprise and technical computing needs, the Itanium-based platform offers mission-critical power and reliability for transaction-intensive computing and other high-performance applications, including data-mining, computer-aided engineering and business intelligence computing.

Raj Jaswa, president and chief executive officer of Selectica, said Intel's new processor will help enhance the performance of Selectica's ISS suite by allowing companies to more quickly capture, analyze, modify and distribute product and sales information across an extended enterprise.

"Itanium-based architecture represents a breakthrough in the development of computer processing, in that it delivers unprecedented power, performance, flexibility and reliability," Jaswa said. "As such, it is well-suited to support Selectica's advanced configuration software."

Intel shipped more than 7,000 prototype systems to software engineers during the development of the Intel Itanium processor, and more than 300 applications currently are being developed or modified to accommodate the new processor. Intel customers expect to begin shipping Itanium-based production systems in the second and third quarters of 2001.

"Selectica's Internet Selling System software is exactly the kind of application that the Intel Itanium processor was designed for," said Mike Pope, director of Intel's Solutions Enabling Group. "We're excited about the extent to which Itanium-based systems will be able to further enhance Selectica's ability to provide highly scalable, mission-critical solutions for e-Business leaders."

Through an Intel Solution Center, Selectica engineers have worked closely with Intel designers in the past to optimize the performance of Selectica's suite of Internet selling applications running on Intel-based servers. Intel Solution Centers provide software developers with a unique opportunity to work side-by-side with Intel performance engineers who understand both hardware and software technologies, and who possess the know-how to combine the two for maximum results.
