Bosnian Serb leader: Bosnia will not join NATO

NATO's demand for Bosnia to strengthen its central institutions if it wants to join the military alliance are unacceptable for the country's Serbs, who would suffer under the changes, their leader said over the weekend.

The warning by Milorad Dodik, the prime minister of Bosnia's Serb ministate, follows the Friday induction of neighboring Montenegro into a program that paves the way for its full membership in the Western military alliance.

At the same time, Bosnia was told that if it wants to join, the country's central institutions must be strengthened at the expense of its two mini-states created as part of the deal that ended the 1992-1995 war.
