City schools Superintendent Michael J. Coury has appointed a committee to examine the feasibility of starting a district elementary school breakfast program.

He said the committee has been directed to formulate recommendations by Dec. 1 so the district may be able to make timely application for state and federal grants.

Diane Solomon, director of the Nutrition Outreach Project of the Schenectady Inner City Ministry, said the program would be eligible for $100,000 of start-up funds.

She said the funding could be used for school kitchen renovations and other expenses necessary to implement the program. …
